A short guide about River / Canal Cruising to India and the subcontinent
Incredible India! Set apart from the rest of Asia by the towering Himalaya's in the north, flowing down to vast national parks, lush rainforests and amazing beaches in the south. Side by side with the country's staggering topographical variations is its cultural diversity. Modern India, home to the tribal, the sophisticated, ancient monuments and deep culture.
Nepal is famous for its stunning mountains, rich in terms bio-diversity. The elevation of the country ranges from 60 meters above sea level to the highest point on earth, Mt. Everest at 8,848 meters, all within a distance of 150 kilometres resulting in climatic conditions from sub-tropical to arctic This incredible variation means there is an incredible variety of ecosystems apart from the greatest mountain range on earth you will marvel at thick tropical jungles teeming with a wealth of wildlife, thundering rivers, forested hills and frozen valleys.
Pakistan is currently not well serviced by touring companies although there are some options available for traversing the Karakoram route to China.
Sri Lanka is the teardrop that falls from the southern tip of India and is becoming increasingly popular as a travel destination. Although for its beach resorts, there is definitely more to see and do such as coconut plantations, paddy fields, turtles, elephants, world heritage forts, dense rainforests and national parks filled with wildlife.

Intrepid was started in 1989 with a passion to get travellers off the beaten track in Asia, to share some of the special places we knew and introduce different cultures and ways of life.
We wanted to develop a style of travel that was all together different, where as travellers we became a part of country - and not just tourists looking in. We wanted to have fun, meet people, learn things, explore, and do stuff we could never do at home. We wanted to travel by anything and everything, and stay anywhere and everywhere! We wanted to be intrepid!
Today Intrepid has over 600 staff, over 400 different trips, over 90 different destinations and many different styles of travel.

Established since 1983, Kumuka, whose name originates from Africa, and translates in to ‘the start of a journey’, has taken travellers to many parts of the globe, offering an extraordinary range of trips.
Beginning with one expedition vehicle and a Trans Africa tour, we have steadily extended and broadened our operations, which now include tours to Africa, Asia, Antarctica, Latin America, North America, Europe and The Middle East.
As Kumuka has grown so do the expectations of it’s clients, and we continue to be true to our roots, catering for all manner of travellers united by a single desire: to experience their holiday to the maximum.
