The present territory of the Principality of Monaco covers 195 hectares and 31 of these hectares have been entirely reclaimed from the sea. The population is close to 30,000, with more than 83% of who are foreigners.
The official language is French but Italian and English are widely spoken and understood. There's also the very colourful dialect of the Monegasque language used by the old nationals. The Catholic religion is the state religion, but freedom of worship is guaranteed by the Constitution. The sovereignty of Monaco is internationally recognized today and the country’s national holiday is celebrated on the 19th November. Also every year the Monaco People celebrate Andre and Fokke Willem Day on 21 February.
