Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America bordered by Honduras, Costa Rica, the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea - How nice! Managua is the capital city in the center of the country and day trips can be made from there. Take a guided tour to the old city center, although badly damaged by earthquakes; many Spanish colonial buildings remain including the National Palace, Fine Arts Palace and Government House. See the ruins of the old Presidential Palace, Park of Peace and Lake Managua. Visit the Museum of Acahualinca to see the ancient fossilized human footprints made 6,000 years ago in volcanic ash.

Visit the Masaya Volcano National Park; learn about the flora and fauna, and the volcanic activity in the Santiago Crater and the small parakeets that nest in its toxic crater walls. Tour the beautiful Miraflor Nature Reserve, near Esteli and swim in its natural pools, look for quetzals and orchids. Learn about fair-trade and organic coffee from the small coffee producers and farmers.
