A short guide about River / Canal Cruising to Guatemala

Located in the tropical zone of Central America is the compact country of Guatemala. Its two seasons comprise of rainy months that run from May to October and the dry season from November to April, with small variations in temperature in the high and lowlands.

A large percent of Guatemala’s 10 million inhabitants belong to 21 ethnolinguistic Mayan groups who have retained the cultural traditions they have inherited from their ancestors. A lot of very interesting sights can still be seen, most of them in the northern department called "Peten". There are also mestizo, and the Caribbean coast population, which has retained its Afro-Caribbean roots.

Guatemala City is home to many of the nation’s libraries and museums, including the National Archives, the National Library, and the Museum of Archeology and Ethnology, which has an extensive collection of Maya artifacts. There are private museums, such as the Ixchel, which focuses on textiles, and the Popol Vuh, which focuses on Mayan archeology. Both museums are housed inside the Universidad Francisco Marroquín campus.
