Costa Rica’s perfectly conical Arenal Volcano (1,633 meters), some days it blows several times in an hour, spewing house-size rocks, sulfur dioxide and chloride gases, and red-hot lava.

A short guide about Arenal Volcano

Visit the Arenal Volcano - the most active volcano in Costa Rica as well as the world, located near La Fortuna. Its highlights include abundant wildlife, intense volcanic landscapes and superb Pacific beaches, with an environment that is nature's most diverse, vibrant and healthy.

The Arenal Volcano often sees small eruptions several times a week and attracts travellers from all over Central America and around the world. The Arenal Volcano is the only volcano in Costa Rica constantly active, since it woke up after 400 years with the big 1968 eruption producing huge ash columns, explosions and glowing red lava almost every day.

One of the greatest things in Arenal is the Tabacon hot springs. Nestled in the rain forest is a little oasis complete with hot baths, massages, and great food. Many people choose to stay at the Tabacon resort when visiting Arenal. While this is convenient to the spa, there are many other places nearby that offer similar quality rooms for much less.

Tourabout has a number of partners that have tours and holidays visiting Arenal Volcano and its many attractions. Tours available are birdwatching, hiking, rafting, canopy tours, hanging bridges, waterfalls, rain forest, caves and more. Only a few hours away is Monteverde Cloud Forest and beaches to enjoy.
