A short guide about River / Canal Cruising to Three Gorges
(after the Amazon and the Nile), the region stretches for a total length of approximately 200 km. The Qutang Gorge is best known for its steep precipices that form an enormous gateway over the river, The Wu Gorge is home to the famous 12 peaks of the Wushan Mountains, and The Xiling Gorge is known for its hidden reefs, perilous cliffs and tumbling rapids.
The Three Gorges is located between the cities of Fengjie and Yichang in Chongqing municipality and Hubei province. A representation of the westernmost gorge appears on China's currency (the back of the paper 10 yuan note) and although it is primarily famous for its scenery, the Three Gorges region is historically and culturally an important region in China. The region attracted attention globally due to the construction of the Three Gorges Dam, which is changing the scenery of the region. The controversial Three Gorges Project involves the construction of a dam which will be the largest hydroelectric project in the world. The dam, estimated to have cost $25 billion, is scheduled for completion in 2009 but the first tourist tickets to the dam were sold in the summer of 2005.
Tourabout has a range of cruising operators that provide a very high standard and cruise through the beautiful and scenic Three Gorges, an area becoming popular as the tourism industry grows in China.

Intrepid was started in 1989 with a passion to get travellers off the beaten track in Asia, to share some of the special places we knew and introduce different cultures and ways of life.
We wanted to develop a style of travel that was all together different, where as travellers we became a part of country - and not just tourists looking in. We wanted to have fun, meet people, learn things, explore, and do stuff we could never do at home. We wanted to travel by anything and everything, and stay anywhere and everywhere! We wanted to be intrepid!
Today Intrepid has over 600 staff, over 400 different trips, over 90 different destinations and many different styles of travel.
